Sarah and Greg – Wine Country Wedding

I’m writing this blog post the night of the Wedding because I don’t want to forget. But then, how could I? Today was one of those days that stick with you. One of those days that you think of often and smile.

Sarah met Greg in a coffee shop in the middle of New York City. Greg thought ‘she’s cute’. As he encoutered her more often (due in part to her stunning barista skills), he thought ‘wow, she’s really pretty. I wonder if she’s smart?’ and she was. She was pretty, she was smart, she was talented, she was funny. Greg then had to ask… Is she in love? She wasn’t. Yet. It was truly meant to be.

Sarah found me on the web after searching countless websites and the email she sent was eager, complimentary, sweet and honest. I explained that I only do a handful of Weddings per year and asked if she could tell me more about her day. She told me they’d dumped their plans to get married on the family’s estate on the east coast with hundreds of guests, they wanted to have an intimate ceremony (in fact, the guest list numbered just a dozen) in Northern California, the home in their hearts. She told me she had showed her fiancee my images because he was an artist and a very discerning one. He loved my work and the emotion that it brought… I was in.

The drive to the Wedding Site was something to behold. I laughed out of excitement and wonder at it’s beauty and I stopped on the road to take photos of the journey. I felt blessed. I arrived and found Sarah who welcomed me with a big hug and was already being beautified by the talented Sarah E Hyde. The family was warm, the friends were welcoming, the location… was nothing short of jaw dropping. Sarah’s signature style was everywhere, including the rustic dining table which was outside, under a large oak tree. The table runner was burlap, the small touches were whimsical and delicious and the flowers were wild and gorgeous. Everyone had pitched in to make Sarah’s vision become a reality and they did it all with huge smiles.

The rest of the day (after the personal and emotional ceremony in which I might’ve shed a tear or two) was filled with laughter, love, hugs, kisses, dancing, singing and more laughter. Sarah and Greg are both VERY talented musicians and they sang to each-other as Greg played guitar and Sarah played the salt-shaker. I couldn’t help but sit back, watch and think… this is truly beautiful. Thank you, Sarah and Greg, for loving my vision and my work, for being so willing to do anything I asked with smiles on your faces and trust in your eyes. But mostly for inviting me to be a part of your day and experience everything right along with you. My heart is richer for having done so. xoxo – D
